INTERNATIONAL YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM

  • HOSTED 7 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS UNDER YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM OF RID 3240 & 3131
  • Rotary Club of Gauhati South hosted and participated in the district Youth Exchange Program of 12-member International Youth Exchange Team visiting RID – 3240 in partnership with RID- 3131, who tied up for the exchange programme.

    International students from Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Spain who are currently studying in colleges in Pune for a year under fellowships from Rotary International had come to Guwahati under the leadership of Rtn. Sobha Nahar from Pune, who arrived in Guwahati on October 4, 2022 and were warmly received and felicitated at the airport by the Rotarians of various clubs of Guwahati, and were hosted by them in their respective houses.

    Members of Rotary Club of Gauhati South took responsibility of hosting 7 out of 12 students, namely Pedro (Spain); Leo (Italy); Gabrielle (France); Henrique (BRAZIL); Autur (BRAZIL); LUARA (BRAZIL) and Julia (BRAZIL).

    Rtn. Apurba Misra hosted 2 female students ie., LUARA and Julia (both from BRAZIL), Rtn. Atanu Kr. Chowdhury hosted 1 female Student namely Gabrielle (France); Rtn. Priyama Goswami hosted Pedro (Spain) & Leo (Italy) and Rtn. Rajesh Bhatra hosted 2 male student namely Henrique & Autur (both from BRAZIL)

    During their stay in Guwahati from 4th till 6th October, 2022, amidst celebration of Durga Puja, the students were taken to the Fancy Bazar Durga Puja Committee for witnessing the aarati with the playing of the dhak. They also offered anjali and took bhoj along with the general public on the Maha Navami day and were felicitated by the Puja Organising Committee .

    Thereafter, in the evening they visited Bhuyan’s Haweli a 100 year old heritage house on the banks of Brahmaputra owned by Mr. D’Com Bhuyan, students had fun and exchanged music.

    Students were then taken on a river cruise in Brahmaputra River and enjoyed the time spent to the fullest.

    All students were taken to visit the Maa Kamakhya Temple and students staying with members of Rotary Club of Gauhati South were taken out for dinner giving them the taste of local assamese cuisine.

    On an invitation by the Asom Vijayadashami Mahotsav Samity to witness the Dusshera celebration at the Nehru Stadium on Wednesday and had the opportunity to meet, greet and briefly interact with Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam. Rtn. Priyama Goswami explained the objectives of the exchange programme to Hon’ble Chief Minister.

    A traditional cum cultural program was organised where different dance form of 7 states of North East region was showcased for them. The Students also participated in the program and presented their music in front of a pack house auditorium, thereafter all were taken for a Dinner organised by our club at our regular club venue ie., Hotel Rajdhani Regency, where before dinner an interactive dance with rotarylets of our club members, rotaractors was impromptu held.

    On the morning of their departing from Guwahati to Shillong, the team on an invitation had a brief interaction with His Excellency, The Governor of Assam at the Raj Bhawan, who organised breakfast in honour of such students and had group photo with all present.
